One-liner#

Results management is a clinical workflow: interpret → communicate → act → track closure.

Minimum workflow (closed-loop)#

  • Interpret the result in context (compare to baseline; medication effects; symptoms)
  • Document your interpretation and plan (even if “no action needed”)
  • Notify the patient in a timely way using an appropriate channel
  • Make sure follow-up is scheduled/queued (repeat labs, visit, referral, imaging)

Documentation checklist#

  • What the result means (plain language)
  • Actions taken (med changes, further testing, referral)
  • Timing (repeat interval, follow-up visit)
  • Return precautions
